Peg 1 on the Thames has long been one of the club’s most productive pegs, earning a reputation over the years for some memorable catches. Unfortunately, time had taken its toll on the old wooden platform, and it had reached the point where replacement was essential.
The surrounding willows had also grown significantly, making access difficult and closing in the overhead canopy. Before work on the platform could begin, a major clearance operation was carried out in May, with chainsaw work assisted by a digger to open up the peg once again.
The old, rotten timber supports have now been replaced with hard-wearing recycled plastic posts, providing a much more durable structure for years to come. Last week, the new platform was finally completed just in time for Sunday’s match.
The refurbishment couldn’t have had a better start—the newly rebuilt Peg 1 produced the winning catch on the day!
A big thank you to everyone who gave their time and effort to complete this project. Your hard work has restored one of our most popular pegs and will be appreciated by members for many years to come.
